Le Grande Station, 1893-1939, Central Station, 1914-1939, Union Station, 1939-

Le Grande Station, 1893-1939.

1899, The California Limited, led by engine No. 53, makes a stop at La Grande Station, c.1899

1911, Most photos I’ve seen of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway’s La Grande station at Santa Fe Ave and 2nd St, in downtown LA were taken, understandably, facing the front entrance. So it’s nice to see a different angle. The photographer was standing on the northern edge of the station looking south along Santa Fe Ave toward the station’s gardens. The station opened in 1893 so I’d say this photo was taken not long after that because the gardens look like they’re freshly laid out. On my website, I have a photo from circa 1911 that shows what those gardens grew into: https://wp.me/p5XK3w-7Mi

c.1911, photo shows what the gardens became.

1950s, This photo struck me because of how close the Union Pacific track butt up against the 101 Freeway at Alameda.  Aerial view looking along the Hollywood Freeway, near Alameda Street.  Union Station is on the right.  City Hall is in the upper left corner.  Thanks to Water and Power

1979, Panoramic view from Los Angeles City Hall, looking northeast from the southern side of Highway 101.  Several landmarks are visible, including the Terminal Annex Post Office, Union Station, and La Plaza.  Thank you to the LAPL.

Trains and train stations can be beautiful.  Here are some neat pics of Grand Central Station in New York.
