MOM'S FAVORITE SINGERS

I saw how much Mom loved Doris Day.

I think it must have been the fact that Mom and Dad were such good dancers that they enjoyed the skillful dancers, singers, and musicians of the Lawrence Welk Show.  It is amazing how popular the polka was in our day, meaning the early 1960s.  I remember how we were instructed to dance the polka at Valley View Elementary.  I had zero rhythm.  Kept thinking to myself, why do we need to learn this?  LOL.  It felt European.  I was an American.  Why are we learning this old-world dance?  Shows you the contrast between what we were learning in the classroom from the new social justice warriors selling their international bent on kids living in the hollow of Duarte.  I never attended any event at Swiss Park, so I didn't really have a sense of my European heritage.  I mean without St. Patrick's Day, how would I have known anything about myself?
