1936, February. "El Monte, California, federal subsistence homesteads. Four in family. Three-room house, $17.70 monthly rent to apply on purchase. Father's occupation: carpenter. 1936, El Monte federal subsistence homesteads. Four-bedroom house. Eight in family, six boys, aged one to fourteen. Father is conductor (streetcar), one hundred dollars monthly.
