Criminal Courts Building was completed before the Hall of Records was demolished in 1973. Because the angle of the HofR was off-kilter from the rest of the grid, the western-facing parts of the buildings were literally inches apart.

[1978] Looking southwest over downtown from the tower of the Los Angeles City Hall. A redesigned Grand Avenue (right) running through Bunker Hill has been completed, but other construction in that corridor has not yet begun.
